The AISZ 60th Anniversary Gala, held at the Sheraton Hotel Zagreb, was a truly memorable evening filled with celebration, community spirit and generosity. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us to mark this special milestone and made the night so extraordinary. A special thank you to our Director, Dr. Darin Fahrney, for hosting the evening with warmth and enthusiasm - made even more unforgettable by his spectacular entrance alongside Coach Dalibor. We are also deeply grateful to Principal Doreen Garrigan and the Early Learning team for their inspiring presentation of the new Lower School Playground plans, the centerpiece of this year’s fundraising efforts. The evening was enriched by outstanding performances from our talented community. Thank you to Vera for a stunning ballet opening, the Mudri Trio for setting the tone with familiar and much-loved melodies during dinner, Max and Mark for their electrifying guitar duo, Lara for her charming ukulele and vocal performance and Lovro for an impressive and powerful synth showcase. Lastly, thank you to our DJ Em Bee for playing some of the greatest hits at the afterparty. We were honored to welcome the US Ambassador to Croatia, H.E. Nicole McGraw, and her husband and we thank them for being part of this special occasion and for their contributions to our school. To our AISZ parents, staff and wider community - thank you for your energy, generosity and your spirit. The evening’s auction was a tremendous success, raising a significant amount of funds toward the development of our new Lower School Playground. We were also delighted to launch our new school merchandise store during the gala, with many guests taking home exciting items through our lively lucky draw. Young robotics enthusiasts gathered in Zagreb for the exciting FIRST LEGO League competition, a global STEM event that brings together students aged 10 to 17. The competition is held in more than 110 countries and encourages students to explore science, technology, engineering, and teamwork through robotics challenges. Building and Programming Robots During the competition, students designed and programmed robots made from LEGO components. These robots had to complete different tasks on a special competition field, such as driving autonomously, transporting objects, and completing specific missions. Teams were given three attempts to achieve the best possible score, allowing them to learn from mistakes and improve their performance. Behind every robot was a team of dedicated students who spent months preparing, testing ideas, and solving problems together. Their work required patience, creativity, and strong programming skills. Innovation Project: Technology Meets Archaeology In addition to the robot game, teams also presented an innovation project. This year’s theme focused on archaeology, challenging students to think about how technology can help researchers study and preserve ancient artifacts. One team proposed using 3D scanners and robotic arms to scan broken pieces of archaeological objects and digitally reconstruct them. Their idea showed how modern technology could help scientists rebuild artifacts more accurately. Learning Important Life Skills Students worked on their robots and projects for about six months before the competition. While winning is exciting, the main goal of the FIRST LEGO League is to help students develop valuable skills such as: Teamwork Problem-solving Creativity Responsibility Mentors explained that competitions like this help students realize how important communication and cooperation are when working in a team. Inspiring the Next Generation Events like the FIRST LEGO League show how fun learning about technology and science can be. By building robots and sharing innovative ideas, students gain experience that may inspire them to pursue careers in science, engineering, or technology in the future.
