Learning at AISZ does not stop at the classroom door. Our Outdoor and Experiential Learning program is a fully structured, curriculum-integrated part of school life from Pre-K all the way through to Grade 12 — woven into the academic year rather than bolted onto the edges of it. It is one of the most ambitious and developmentally thoughtful outdoor education programs of any international school in the region.
The program is built around three interconnected pillars: environmental education, outdoor skills development, and personal and character growth. Through regular outdoor learning experiences, weekly field-based activities, and our signature annual Unity Trips, students develop resilience, leadership, teamwork, and a genuine connection to the natural world — all while their learning comes alive beyond the classroom walls.

The Unity Trips are the heart of the program — annual, grade-specific expeditions that grow in challenge and ambition with each passing year:
Grade 4 — First overnight adventure: camping, teamwork, independence Grade 5 — Extended outdoor exploration, growing in confidence and self-reliance Grades 6–8 — Multi-day expeditions including hiking and kayaking Grades 9–10 — More demanding wilderness challenges and leadership development Grade 11 — The capstone journey: a sailing expedition along the Adriatic Sea.
Each trip is deliberately designed around clear educational outcomes, with personal growth and social development at the centre of every experience. By the time an AISZ student reaches Grade 11, they have accumulated eight years of progressive outdoor challenge — and the confidence and character to show for it.
