Pathways to Graduation

At the heart of the mission of AISZ, we are excited to offer a progressive academic and co-curricular program that challenges students to meet their academic goals and interests. The high school learning arc begins with the transition from the middle school experience to post-secondary career and university options in four years. You will find descriptions of the program and pathway options in the section below.

Grade 9

Transitioning from middle school, this year will build on foundation subjects and electives choices with an increased emphasis on written expression and literacy skills, communications, and expertise in learning. Electives choices in languages and the arts become more specialized as students plan their final course of study in high school. The Design Lab semester course is offered as an opportunity for students to develop the skills sets to explore divergent ways of thinking as they prepare for more complex critical thinking environments in high school.

Grade 10

In this year, students further their academic foundation in preparation for the IB/DP or AISZ High School Diploma pathways by strengthening their literacy skills in all subjects, and beginning the journey towards post-secondary study. In January of this academic year, students will begin  counseling to make the program choices for their last two years of high school.  In addition, Workshop for Grade 10 supports students’ forward planning and thinking about academic and program choices leading into the last two years of high school and beyond.

Grade 11

In Grade 11, students have the opportunity to pursue one of three pathways that complement the AISZ Diploma. In January and February of this academic year, university/post-secondary planning will begin alongside a highly customized academic program.

Grade 12

The culminating year of secondary school, students finalize their post secondary options and the completion of their graduation pathway. Students must satisfy all credit requirements in order to receive an AISZ diploma. Final exams for the IB/DP and certificates are in May with official results reported in July.
